Sweet Marjoram Oil
Sweet marjoram (Marjoram Hungary) is mainly used as a culinary herb, but is also medicinally valuable due to its stimulant and antispasmodic properties. It is highly fragrant and calming herb that has a mild anti oxidant, anti fungal and anti-spasmodic properties. The dried leaves of sweet marjoram are widely used by food industry as flavoring agents for dressing, soups, and in formulation of vermouth and bitters.The (volatile) extract is known for its antibacterial, anti fungal, and antioxidant properties. Sweet marjoram is a medicinal plant with various proven pharmacological properties, including antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal activities due to the presence of flavonoids, phenolics, saponins, and triterpenoidal compounds. The flowering stems contain essential oil with a containing terpinenes and terpinols, plus tannins, bitter compounds, carotenes, and vitamin C. These substances give sweet marjoram stomachic, carminative, antispasmodic, and weak sedative properties.
