Indian bdellium, known as guggul (myrrh) in Hindi, is a gum resin obtained from the guggul tree (Indian Myrrh or False Myrrh) and contains various plant essential oils and steroid compounds. It contains plant steroids that lower cholesterol and triglycerides. The gum contains minerals, resin, volatile oils, sterols, ferulates, flavones, sterones, and a potent anti-inflammatory compound known as guggulsterone, which helps in treating various skin inflammations. It is widely used in Ayurvedic medications for the treatment of acne wrinkles and other skin related problems.
